For the first time in Grammys history, the 66th edition will showcase the award for Best African Music Performance live on stage.

In a report from Chart Data, a total of 122 tracks were submitted for the Best African Music Performance category. An article in Billboard, published after the introduction of the new African category, highlighted top contenders for nomination, including Adekunle Gold’s ‘Party No Dey Stop,’ Davido’s ‘Unavailable,’ and Asake’s ‘2:30.’

Over the years, Nigerians have shown growing interest in the Grammys, particularly after the victories of Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Tems. With the addition of the new African category, fans eagerly anticipate the inclusion of more Nigerian artists alongside notable names like King Sunny Ade, Femi Kuti, Seun Kuti, Made Kuti, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Tems in the Grammy nominations list.

Leading up to the unveiling of the nominations on November 10th, the Academy has released a video emphasizing the significance of member voting and its potential to shape the future of the music industry.

The 2024 Grammy Awards is scheduled for Sunday, February 4, 2024.
