Nigerian social commentator and online personality, Martins Vincent Otse, widely recognized as Verydarkman (VDM), has voiced his outrage over the imprisonment of Olukeye Adedayo, who was convicted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly misappropriating N71,000

In a recently shared video, the activist criticized the sentencing as excessively severe, calling it a “gross miscarriage of justice” after Adedayo was handed a shocking 76-year jail term.

VDM questioned why petty offenders are harshly penalized while top government officials accused of looting public funds face no real consequences.

As part of his passionate criticism, VDM blasted the EFCC for failing to hold influential politicians accountable during the past eight years.

He accused the agency of neglecting its core duties and focusing on minor cases while overlooking large-scale fraud by elites. Referring to the commission with sarcasm as “Kidder FC,” he implied that its efforts were misdirected, even joking that he might be detained again for speaking out.

The outspoken advocate also cited lingering corruption allegations, including those tied to marketers in Anambra State and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). He lamented the silence and lack of prosecution in these cases, mentioning the unresolved controversy surrounding ex-Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.

Further criticizing Nigeria’s legal system, VDM described the judiciary as deeply flawed. He pointed to the crisis in Kuje Correctional Facility, where over 700 detainees are reportedly held without trial. He added that many Nigerians are compelled to pay bribes just to influence court outcomes — a sign, he argued, that the legal system is failing its citizens.

According to the activist, if the justice system in Nigeria were effective, there would be no need for people like him to champion the cause of fairness and transparency.

This reaction follows VDM’s recent run-in with the EFCC, after he was declared missing by his associate, Dkokopee. It was later revealed that he had been arrested by the anti-corruption agency. Following growing public outcry, VDM was released, sparking widespread online support and celebration among his followers. Post-release, observers noticed visible changes in his appearance, prompting some public figures to allege that he had been mistreated while in custody. Others condemned the arrest as unjust and unwarranted.
