Nigerian Entertainment News: The idea of going our separate ways came from Don Jazzy – D’banj
Nigerian music star D’banj has once again reflected on the events that triggered the dissolution of the legendary Mo’Hits Records, disclosing that the choice to split up originated solely from his long-time collaborator and producer, Don Jazzy
During an appearance on the latest episode of the Mic On podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, D’banj stated that Don Jazzy was “100 per cent responsible” for the separation that stunned the Nigerian entertainment scene in 2012.
He explained that he has no desire to rewrite their history because the suggestion to go separate ways was never his.
“If I were to go back in time, I wouldn’t have done anything differently regarding my relationship with Don Jazzy, especially when the idea to go our separate ways didn’t come from me. The idea to go our separate ways came from Don Jazzy which is why we are still cool,” D’banj said.
The singer also disclosed that after the breakup, Don Jazzy transferred complete ownership of his music catalogue to him.
“Jazzy gave me 100 per cent of my catalogue and maybe 10 other songs I have not released… It was a journey for me. Even though he had his opinion, I knew we needed to solidify that global wave, and I’m grateful that even afterward, God still came through for us with ‘Oliver Twist,’ which was the final record we dropped together,” he added.
D’banj emphasized that he holds no regrets about their parting, noting that it was bound to happen. Still, he confessed that the one thing he truly misses is the creative spark he shared with Don Jazzy.
He noted that the split gave them room to pursue individual directions, but their influence together, particularly at Mo’Hits, remains a legacy he deeply treasures.
