Nigerian singer and songwriter, Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has reached a groundbreaking milestone in her career
Her chart-topping collaboration with American rapper Future and international superstar Drakeon the track “Wait For U” has officially garnered over one billion streams on Spotify.
This phenomenal feat earns Tems a spot in the elite group of African artists recognized with Spotify’s prestigious Billion Streams Plaque.
She now stands alongside global Afrobeats icons like Wizkid, Rema, and South African singer Tyla—each having also achieved the remarkable one-billion-stream benchmark.
“Wait For U,” which dropped in 2022 as part of Future’s album I Never Liked You, features a sample of Tems’ emotive vocals from her song “Higher.” The hit single soared to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, making Tems the first African artist to debut at No. 1 on the chart.
