Nigerian Entertainment News: Shallipopi Criticizes Headies Organizers Over Lack of Award Plaque, Receives Only Handshake
Popular Nigerian artiste, Shallipopi, has harshly criticized the coordinators of the 17th Headies Awards after being given only a handshake instead of the customary award plaque during the ceremony
Shallipopi, who lost the much-contested “Next Rated” category to Odumodublvck, emerged as the winner of the ‘Best Rap Single of the Year’ for his hit song “Cast.”
However, upon walking up to the stage to receive his honor, he was met with nothing more than a handshake, as the organizers explained they had exhausted their supply of plaques.
Clearly displeased, Shallipopi took to his Twitter account to voice his frustration, announcing that he would not be attending any future award shows.
He also added that he never truly valued the ‘Best Rap Single’ recognition, as he doesn’t even identify as a rapper.
In his words:
“The next one if una see me make I bend.
I nor go even lie for una sef, I nor want that award. Give the real rappers wey dey the category. Me, Shallipopi, I nor be rapper.”
His outburst has sparked conversations online about the professionalism of award shows and artists’ recognition.
