Nigerian Entertainment News: “I Almost Quit Music,”- Lojay Reveals Early Struggles In His Career
Singer Lekan Osifeso, widely recognized by his stage name Lojay, has opened up about the tough beginnings of his journey in the Nigerian music industry, recounting moments when he nearly gave up on his dreams
During an exclusive chat with Punch, the ‘Monalisa’ hitmaker admitted that there were periods when he felt uncertain about his talent and questioned if his music would ever gain recognition.
He confessed, “I’ve had moments where I almost quit music. There were nights I doubted if anyone would ever hear my songs. But those silent years shaped me; they taught me patience, resilience, and gratitude for every single listener today.”
Lojay further discussed how he manages the pressure and expectations that come with fame, revealing that he often retreats from the spotlight to realign his focus.
He explained, “Family, faith, and silence. Sometimes I just disappear for a bit — no music, no social media. Just time to breathe and reconnect with God and my people. That’s how I remember who I am outside the noise.”
Reflecting on the success of his global smash “Monalisa” and its remix featuring Chris Brown, Lojay highlighted how the experience reaffirmed the limitless power of authentic music.
He emphasized, “It showed me that music really doesn’t have boundaries. Chris came in with full respect for the record — he understood it, felt it, and elevated it. It made me realize that authenticity travels further than trying to sound ‘international.’”
On the release of his debut album XOXO, the singer revealed that he deliberately took his time to ensure the project was heartfelt and genuine.
He added, “I didn’t want to drop an album just to say I did. I wanted to live first — to experience enough emotions that could fill an album with truth. Every song on XOXO came from a real place, and I needed time to find that honesty.”
