Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has expressed deep sorrow over the distressing story of 13-year-old abuse victim, Ochanya Ogbanje, and the recent GoFundMe campaign initiated in her honour
Ochanya’s tragic story, which initially came to light after her death in 2018, has once again stirred emotions across Nigeria.
Reports revealed that she suffered prolonged sexual and physical abuse at the hands of her cousin and his father while living under their care — abuse that ultimately led to fatal complications. The renewed awareness has spurred a GoFundMe initiative aimed at continuing the pursuit of justice for her.
Taking to Instagram, Hilda Baci poured out her emotions, expressing empathy not only for Ochanya but also for other victims enduring similar pain. She decried the failure of those who were supposed to safeguard the young girl and highlighted that countless others remain trapped in silence and fear.
The popular chef and humanitarian emphasized that preserving Ochanya’s legacy goes beyond trending social media hashtags — it requires tangible effort, consistent advocacy, and actionable support for survivors.
In a heartfelt show of commitment, Hilda Baci revealed that she has donated ₦2 million towards securing justice for Ochanya and others like her. She also urged her followers to help select two NGOs that would receive the funds to continue their work in defending abuse victims.
According to Hilda, her donation is a call to action — an encouragement for others to participate through financial aid, advocacy, or volunteer service. She appealed to individuals unable to donate to instead raise awareness, and she invited legal practitioners to join the legal team seeking justice in the case.
With this gesture, Hilda Baci joins a growing circle of public figures championing the rights of abuse victims. Earlier this year, activist Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan) was also involved in efforts to rescue and repatriate underage girls trafficked overseas.
