Nigerian Entertainment News: Fresh Twist in Psquare Family Rift as EFCC Denies Peter Okoye’s Accusation
The fraud allegations levelled by singer Peter Okoye against his brother, Jude Okoye, took a new turn last week after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared that it has no proof supporting the claims made against the music executive
Jude Okoye — the former manager of the now-disbanded duo Psquare — was dragged to court by his younger sibling, Peter, who alleged that he diverted Psquare’s funds into accounts he personally controlled.
Jude reportedly spent more than two months in EFCC detention before securing bail as the legal proceedings advanced.
As published by Punch newspaper, the hearing resumed on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja.
During the cross-examination, EFCC official Mohammed Bashir stated that the agency lacks any material evidence to establish that Jude Okoye defrauded Psquare of $800,000.
Bashir stressed that Peter must present proof to substantiate his accusation, since the EFCC cannot supply evidence it does not have.
The legal dispute began in 2024 when Jude and his firm, Northside Music Limited, were accused of allegedly mismanaging $1 million and £34,000 in royalties generated from Psquare’s digital music distribution and publishing.
According to EFCC documents, Jude and Northside Music Limited purportedly retained $767,544.15 paid by Lex Records Limited for digital distribution, with the intention of permanently withholding Peter’s entitlement. Jude was later granted bail of N50 million on March 6, 2025.
Hostilities intensified when their elder brother, Paul, aligned himself with Jude and unfollowed Peter on social media. Paul openly supported Jude, distanced himself from Peter, and their collaborative music efforts came to a halt. He also posted cryptic messages that many believed were aimed at Peter.
The conflict has further extended to their households. Peter’s wife, Lola, has reportedly grown close to Paul’s ex-wife, Anita Okoye, with the two women seen taking pictures and enjoying outings together — highlighting the emotional and personal toll of the ongoing feud.
