Nigerian Entertainment News: EFCC Allegedly Tags VeryDarkMan a ‘Bandit’ Amid Controversial Arrest
In a recent development shaking the landscape of Nigerian Entertainment News, legal representative Deji Adeyanju has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) referred to his client, popular internet personality Martins Vincent Otse — widely recognized as VeryDarkMan — as a bandit, before blindfolding and assaulting him during a contentious apprehension
According to a public disclosure released by Adeyanju’s legal team via the social platform X (formerly known as Twitter), the incident unfolded on May 2, 2025.
The statement, titled “Preliminary Report on the Detention of Mr. Martins Vincent Otse (aka VeryDarkMan) and Mr. Steven Avuara (aka C-Pack) by EFCC Operatives”, outlines the alleged mistreatment.
The report indicates that the arrest occurred shortly after Otse, alongside his mother, Mrs. Blessing Otse, and Mr. Avuara, visited the Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch in Garki, Area 3, Abuja, to address concerns over frequent unauthorized deductions from Mrs. Otse’s account.
Following the inquiry, the trio reportedly attempted to leave but were trapped inside the bank’s secure entrance for over five minutes. Moments after they finally stepped outside, they were allegedly confronted by armed men in black uniforms who, at gunpoint, assaulted and blindfolded them.
The legal document asserts that EFCC agents labeled them “bandits” and made death threats in the presence of Mrs. Otse.
Upon hearing of the arrest, Adeyanju’s fellow attorneys — Marvin Omorogbe and Steven Eze — visited the EFCC headquarters, where they confirmed that Otse and Avuara were being held by members of the Commission’s Special Duty Committee (SDC) Unit 4.
Though they were denied access to Otse — who reportedly “refused to see any visitors” — they managed to speak with Avuara, who recounted the events.
Efforts to obtain a clear reason for Avuara’s detention were unproductive, as EFCC operatives allegedly declined to provide specific accusations against him. Instead, they presented an arrest warrant for Otse, purportedly issued by Chief Magistrate Njideka Iloanya-Duru (Mrs) of Wuse Zone 2, citing charges related to cyberstalking.
Despite multiple requests for clarification, the EFCC reportedly proceeded to question Avuara without presenting any formal allegations — a move Adeyanju’s team deemed a breach of his constitutional rights. The lawyers eventually left the interrogation, insisting they wouldn’t participate in a process they considered unlawful.
The statement ended with a call to action: “As we continue to engage the EFCC on this matter, we urge the Commission to uphold the constitutional liberties of our clients.”
