Nigerian Entertainment News: Davido, Burna Boy, Shallipopi, Others Earn Nods for 2025 AFRIMA Awards
Renowned Nigerian music icons Davido, Burna Boy, and Shallipopi have secured several nominations for the upcoming 2025 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), which is scheduled to take place in Lagos from November 25 to 30
Both Burna Boy and Davido top the nominee list with five categories each, including prestigious recognitions such as Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Collaboration.
Rising star Shallipopi trails closely with four nominations, one of which is Artiste of the Year for his breakout track “Laho.”
Other notable nominees include Ayra Starr, who earned two nominations, while DJ Maphorisa, El Grande Toto, Mia Guissé, and Moliy each scored five nods. Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz, South Africa’s Tyla, and Uncle Waffles each received four nominations.
AFRIMA jury representative Delani Makhalima praised the growing acknowledgment of African music, stating: “For many years, our music was overlooked, but now African sounds are being celebrated globally. AFRIMA stands as the premier music platform on the continent.”
The week-long celebration will include music performances, an industry-focused business forum, and a grand awards ceremony on November 30, which will be broadcast live in 84 countries.
