Rising star Sunshine Rosman has shed light on her journey in the film industry, her personal background, and the motivation behind her role in Kemi Adetiba’s acclaimed film To Kill a Monkey

Rosman, whose roots trace back to an Imo State mother and a Canadian father, spent her childhood in Lagos—a city where her passion for acting took shape. Drawing influence from screen legend Marilyn Monroe, she fondly recalls organizing small performances with her sisters to entertain their dad.

In To Kill a Monkey, Rosman portrays Amanda Sparkles, a character she says was inspired by the lifestyle of elite Lagos socialites, often referred to as “runs” girls. “Amanda Sparkles is a mixture of my own lived experiences and stories I’ve observed in other women. Sometimes, I simply sit at a lounge and observe people,” she revealed, crediting divine favor for helping her embody the role convincingly.

Interestingly, Rosman nearly missed the opportunity due to academic commitments. “I was preparing for exams when the offer came through. It felt like fate,” she said. Through her performance, she discovered a powerful truth: “Nobody is entirely blameless, and when men try to pull women down, we must find the strength to rise above.”

Addressing public curiosity, the actress clarified that while many believe she speaks French fluently, her exposure is limited to beginner courses taken at Alliance Française.

Rosman also opened up about the challenges she faces as a biracial actress in Nollywood. “Sometimes I don’t look fully Nigerian, but I also don’t look completely foreign either. That can affect casting decisions,” she admitted.

She’s firm about her professional limits, especially regarding onscreen intimacy. “Far too often, directors want to hypersexualize beautiful actresses. I refuse to be portrayed as just an object unless there’s a deeper message,” she emphasized.

Looking ahead, Rosman is setting her sights beyond Nollywood, aspiring to take on roles in Hollywood, Bollywood, and other international film circles. Off-camera, she is also deeply involved in fashion, skincare, and humanitarian efforts—particularly supporting orphanages, a cause close to her family’s heart.
