American Entertainment News: Snoop Dogg Responds After Controversy Over LGBTQ+ Comments in Disney Film
Veteran hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg has responded following widespread criticism over his remarks concerning LGBTQ+ representation in the 2022 animated Disney and Pixar film, Lightyear
The backlash began after Snoop appeared on the “It’s Giving” podcast, where he shared his discomfort about a same-sex couple portrayed in the movie.
He revealed that the scene made him hesitant to return to the cinema, as he was unsure how to address his grandson’s questions about same-s£x relationships.
The interview quickly gained attention online, sparking a flurry of reactions directed at both the rapper and the podcast, with some viewers accusing the show of poor editing and misrepresentation.
In a response posted in the comment section of a Hollywood Unlocked Instagram post, Snoop clarified his position.
“I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons,” he explained.
He added: “All my g@y friends know the deal — they’ve been reaching out with love. I’m sorry for not knowing how to respond to a 6-year-old. Teach me. I’m still learning — I’m not perfect.”
During the podcast, Snoop recalled his confusion when his grandson asked how a female character in Lightyear could have a child with another woman.
‘I didn’t come in for this sh**. I just came to watch the goddamn movie,’ he recalled, admitting that he panicked when pressed for an answer. ‘These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.’
Lightyear, a Pixar spinoff starring Chris Evans, includes a brief montage showing Alisha Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba) marrying her partner, Kiko, and raising a child — a scene that includes Disney’s first-ever same-s£x kiss.
Snoop’s comments ignited heated debates online, with many accusing him of promoting homophobic sentiments. Others, however, suggested the rapper was simply voicing a genuine moment of confusion as a grandparent trying to navigate evolving cultural narratives.
