Nigerian Entertainment News: VeryDarkMan Alleges Misconduct by EFCC, Issues Strong Caution Over Possible Tompolo Arrest
Outspoken Nigerian digital personality, Martins Vincent Otse—popularly known in the social space as VeryDarkMan (VDM)—has fired back at recent remarks made by the head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede, during a televised discussion
During the interview, the EFCC chairman underscored the significance of granting individuals the right to a fair hearing and advised against prematurely judging ex-militant commander Oweizidei Thomas Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, over accusations concerning the abuse of naira notes.
In his online video response, VDM recounted a disturbing personal experience involving EFCC operatives. According to him, agents of the commission allegedly threatened his mother with a gun and aimed to shoot his friend in the leg during a bank visit.
He further stated that his mobile phone and vehicle were forcefully taken during the ordeal, with no official charges brought against him to date.
VDM lambasted the EFCC’s public declarations about due process and fairness, contrasting them with what he described as the reality of his own ordeal. He also insinuated that the real motive behind the incident could have been to access his phone.
Asserting his personal relationship with Tompolo, VDM strongly cautioned the EFCC against making any attempt to arrest the former militant. He vowed to disgrace the agency publicly should anything untoward happen to Tompolo.
He went on to question the EFCC’s impartiality, pointing out that the son of renowned industrialist Chief Okoya was seemingly overlooked in a comparable case. He also accused the agency of turning a blind eye to CBEX fraudsters, suggesting that focusing on naira note violations might be a misuse of its resources.
VDM maintained that Tompolo was not visible in the video allegedly showing money spraying and urged the commission to reassess the footage before drawing conclusions.
In a separate part of his statement, the social commentator revealed his intention to file a petition with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) over an incident at a market in Anambra. He called on the agency to take action once the formal report is submitted.
This incident adds another chapter to VDM’s escalating friction with the EFCC. Recall that just a few weeks ago, he was reportedly held incommunicado by the agency, prompting his associate, Dkokopee, to alert the public. He was later freed after spending several days in detention.
