Nigerian Entertainment News: Peter Okoye Declares He’s the Only Professionally Trained Musician in the Okoye Family
Peter Okoye, widely recognized as Mr P and formerly one half of the legendary P-Square duo, has opened up about the reasons behind the group’s disbandment, while confidently stating that he is the only certified music professional in the Okoye household
During a recent appearance at the AY Live Show, Mr P took the opportunity to address ongoing comparisons between himself and his twin brother, Paul Okoye.
He revealed that constant fan-driven comparisons — which often placed Paul in a more favorable light — contributed heavily to the group’s eventual fallout.
Mr P pointed out that the undue admiration directed towards Paul inflated his ego, leading to certain behavioral issues that negatively affected their working relationship.
Pushing back against claims that he lacks musical ability, Peter emphasized his range of artistic skills. He highlighted his ability to sing, dance, and play musical instruments such as the piano and guitar — talents he believes have been unfairly downplayed.
In his words:
“I’ve sung and danced, but people claimed I had no talent. I’m here to prove myself. P-Square fell apart because fans kept comparing us, claiming one had more skill than the other. That got into his head and changed things.
“You were misled. Among the entire Okoye family, I’m the only one with a formal certificate in music. I studied music. But people fed you lies. I know those who did, but let’s not go into that. I’ve performed, danced, and played multiple instruments — do you think it’s that simple?”
This revelation has stirred fresh conversations across social platforms, further fueling this week’s Nigerian Entertainment News trends.
