American Entertainment News: Jury Delivers Partial Verdict in Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Legal Battle
In a major development in American Entertainment News, the jury in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal sex trafficking trial has reached a partial verdict but remains undecided on the most serious charge—racketeering.
However, they remain split on the most severe allegation — racketeering.
The panel informed Judge Arun Subramanian that they had reached conclusions on charges 2 through 5, but could not agree on the first charge, which accuses Combs of operating a criminal syndicate. “Jurors have strongly held views on both sides,” the message stated.
Although the judge instructed them to keep deliberating on the racketeering charge, he adjourned proceedings for the day and asked them to reconvene on Wednesday.
The top count accuses the Bad Boy Records founder of spearheading an illicit group that allegedly exploited women through manipulative and repeated sexual encounters with escorts — a charge that could result in a life sentence. Combs is also being tried on two counts of sex trafficking and two counts related to facilitating prostitution.
The case has made waves across Nigerian Entertainment News platforms, especially after it gained momentum following a civil lawsuit from Combs’ ex-girlfriend of over a decade, singer Cassie Ventura.
She accused him of sexual, physical, and psychological abuse. Though that civil case was settled for $20 million, it triggered a cascade of similar claims, leading to criminal prosecution.
Over the past seven weeks, the courtroom has heard disturbing testimonies. Two women described being coerced into explicit gatherings, while former staff detailed violent behavior. Prosecutors submitted a trove of evidence, including thousands of documents, financial records, and digital media.
According to the prosecution, Combs headed a criminal network supported by key personnel who executed his orders through forced labor, narcotics trafficking, abduction, bribery, and witness intimidation. Despite these claims, defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo noted that none of these associates testified against Combs or were labeled as accomplices. Several witnesses were granted immunity for their testimonies.
For a racketeering conviction, all jurors must agree that Combs collaborated with others to commit at least two of the eight underlying crimes.
The artist is specifically charged with trafficking both Cassie Ventura and another woman, referred to in court as Jane. Both alleged survivors, who were in long-term relationships with Combs, recounted traumatic experiences of manipulation, violence, and threats.
While the defense acknowledged some instances of physical altercations, they argue these do not meet the legal definition of sex trafficking or organized criminal activity.
In closing arguments, prosecutors accused the defense of twisting facts.
“By the time he committed his clearest-cut offenses, he was so far past the line he couldn’t even see it,” said prosecutor Maurene Comey.
“The defendant never thought the women he abused would have the courage to speak out. That ends in this courtroom. The defendant is not a god.”
